Abstract
This study was performed to identify the risk factor related to the development of hypertension in a rural area by cross-sectional study. 932 subjects in one of rural-urban city of Chungnam province was interviewed and examined in August, 2003. General characteristics(age, gender, education level, economic status, marital status). the family history of hypertension, diet, alcohol, smoking, coffee, stress, past history of oral contraceptive and menopausal status in female, history of arthritis, history of diabetes, height, weight, waist, and hip circumference, baseline blood pressure was included in study. Family history, history of arthritis, history of diabetes, body mass index(BMI), waist hip ratio(WHR), age, diet, menopausal status in female were risk factors associated with development of hypertension in one of rural-urban city of Chungnam province. Logistic regression model indicated that family history, history of arthritis, history of diabetes, body mass index(BMI), waist hip ratio(WHR), age, diet, menopausal status in female were risk factors associated with development of hypertension. multivariate analysis using logistic regression show that age, WHR in mans and age, BMI in woman were identified as strong risk factor. Also we find out DM history in man and DM history, family history, WHR in woman have relation with hypertension in multivariate analysis. Age, WHR in man and age, BMI in woman were identified as strong risk factor for the development of hypertension. To prevent hypertension, we should change diet, control blood glucose and loss body weight.
